WHELAN -With great sorrow the Whelan family announces the death of Michael Joseph Whelan who passed away February 1, 2005. Joe was born in Saskatoon in 1923. He loved the country and spent his entire life on the family homestead west of Saskatoon. Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by Mona, his wife of 52 years; daughter Kathy (Brian) Edmunds of Mill Bay BC, grandchildren Sean, Daniel and Warren; daughter Patricia (Ray) Holder of Winnipeg, MB, grandchildren Michael and David; son Paul (Judy) Whelan of Saskatoon, grandchildren Alauna, Naomi, Joshua, Laura and Sarah; son Greg Whelan and grandchildren Alison, Andrea, August, Ashley and Andrew; son Ron (Lori) Whelan of Saskatoon and grandchildren Tia, Liam, Garret, Dane and Brinn. Joe is also survived by his sister Anne (Bill) Loran of Saskatoon and brothers Jack (Joan) Whelan of Kamloops BC and Jerome (Frieda) Whelan of Saskatoon. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Marie. Dad loved the farm and among his hobbies were square dancing, bowling and horse shoes. Dad was a man of quiet dignity and always met you with a smile. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Harrington and the staff of the Special Care Ward at Luther Sunset Home for the care and compassion they showed dad. Prayers will be held on Friday February 4 at 7:30 PM. The funeral mass with Father Remi Hebert presiding will be celebrated on Saturday February 5 at 10:30 AM, both to take place at St. Marys Catholic Church on Ave. O and 20th St. Internment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Westwood Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Marys Parish Building fund or to the Alzheimer's Society.
