Michael Joseph Tompkins August 01, 1922 - December 02, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) TOMPKINS, Michael Augustin - 82, Halifax, passed away December 2, 2004, surrounded by his loving wife and family, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax, after a long illness. Born in Ford View, Margaree, Cape Breton, he was the youngest son of the late Michael J. and Margaret Mae (MacLellan) Tompkins. Michael was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and did so with a huge smile. He enjoyed a game of crib and loved teaching others how to play. He was especially proud of his Cape Breton heritage and often sang in Gaelic. Michael served as a Brother in the St. Augustin Monastery of Ontario for 23 years. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Branch No. 079, Archbishop McCarthy Assembly of Nova Scotia and held various positions such as "The Sick and Visiting". He retired from the old Halifax Infirmary in 1988. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Edith (Greenwood) Tompkins; brother, Ronald (Florence), Antigonish; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Donald and Patrick; sister, Margaret; two brothers in infancy. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and Sunday. Funeral mass will take place on Monday, December 6, in St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, 165 Coronation Ave., Halifax, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lung Association of Nova Scotia or to a charity of your choice.
