Obituary of Michael Hanley

GLASCOCK, ELIZABETH AGNES HANLEY, 78, of New Smyrna Beach and widow of (Lt Col.) former Casselberry Mayor Charles H. Glascock, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003. Born in New York City on January 1, 1925, Elizabeth Hanley was the sixth child of Michael Hanley, an Irish coal miner, and Mary Conlon Hanley, both of County Mayo, Ireland. Despite the untimely death of Michael Hanley in 1927, the Hanleys lived, loved and thrived in NYC's Hell's Kitchen. No matter where life took her, Elizabeth never forgot her beloved NYC. Following her graduation from Cathedral High School, Ms. Hanley attended the Jesuit Business College for Women. Upon completing her studies, she traveled to Tokyo with the United Nations, and while there, met Charles H. Glascock, U.S. Army, of Hannibal, MO. After their marriage, and as the mother of a large family, Elizabeth spent her life teaching, guiding and raising another generation of Americans with a keen awareness of public service and commitment to family and community. Whether serving as a military or political wife, driving a ridiculous carpool schedule, or overseeing the many details of Seminole Hardware and Western Supplies in Longwood, FL, Elizabeth retained her wonderful spirit. She loved the theater, and acted in several local productions. She was a marvelous writer, and was recognized several times by The Orlando Sentinel for her letters to the editor. Along with her late husband, she was a founding member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Casselberry. She was kind, had extraordinary energy, and knew the answers to practically any Jeopardy question. She is survived by sons, Cpt. Timothy M. Glascock, U.S. Army, serving in Kabul, Afghanistan, of Casselberry, FL, William C. Glascock, Clermont, FL, Terence P. Glascock, Charleston, SC, John J. Glascock, Lake Mary, FL; daughters, Mary E. Larson, Sanford, FL, Lisa G. Nason, Blacksburg, VA, and Rose Palmer, Bradenton, FL; beloved sister Josephine McNamara of Keyport, New Jersey; dear brothers Anthony and Bill Hanley of NYC; and special sister-in-law Connie Hanley, of NYC; grandchildren, Priscilla, Timothy, Madeleine, and Tyler Glascock, Charlie, Patrick and Joseph Larson, Kyle Stone, J.P. and Maggie Rose Glascock, Erin and Sean Palmer, Barrett and Emily Glascock, Jack Glascock; and many treasured nieces, nephews and extended family members. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, 2PM at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Casselberry. Rosary will be said from 1:30-1:45PM. Wake will follow at An Tobar Irish Pub, Maitland, 5PM, Friday, Sept. 19, 2003. Burial at a later date, Arlington National Cemetery.
