Obituary of Mercer-V. -White III


December 14, 2003 Mercer Valentine White III, 78, of Norfolk, VA, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2003 in his home. He had retired after 30 years of service with the H. B. Fuller Corp. as an industrial adhesives sales representative. For the past 16 years he was one of the owners of B&B Exxon in Norfolk, VA. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the son of the late Mercer V. White Jr. and Elizabeth Little White. Mr. White was a graduate of Syracuse University, where he was a member of Psi Upsilon Fraternity. He was also a member of the GYRO Club of Syracuse, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a combat engineer in the European Theater. Survivors include: his beloved wife Jane Jenney White; a daughter Elizabeth W. Gardner of Fayetteville, N.Y.; two sons, Peter K. White of Norfolk, VA and Steven D. White of Virginia Beach, VA; and six grandchildren. Services and burial will be conducted in Syracuse, N.Y. at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Syracuse S.P.C.A. or to the Salvation Army. Cox Funeral Home, Norfolk, VA is handling arrangements.
