SMITH Mavis Phillips Smith, 84, born in Canton, N.C. and a longtime resident of Jacksonville, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2001. She was a charter member of Southside United Methodist Church. Other clubs include San Jose Country Club, and the 21 Investment Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Percy A. Smith. Survivors include her son, P.A. Smith, Jr., (Mira); two daughters, Mavis Sandra Smith and Ginny Schoolfield, (Kerry); sister, Mary Lee Parater; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, in Oaklawn Cemetery with Dr. Wayne Wiatt officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, the 28th from 6 to 8 p.m. at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, ,4115 HENDRICKS AVED. In the event of rain,, the service will be held at the Funeral Home.
