Obituary of Mavis-Jane-Brown Calhoun


Dalton, GA - Funeral services for Mavis Jane Brown Calhoun, 85, of Dalton, Ga., formerly of Wedowee, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013, from Benefield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Terry Graham and the Rev. David Daniel officiating. Visitation will be 5 - 8 tonight, February 23, 2013. Burial will follow in the Providence Baptist Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Tim Brown, Randy Wilson, Freddy Brown, Terry Brown, and Phil Gasaway. Mrs. Calhoun died Friday, February 21, 2013, at Hamilton Medical Center. She is survived by husband, Howard Calhoun, of Dalton, Ga.; one son, Ken Calhoun, of Dalton, Ga.; one grandson, Scott Calhoun, of Tustin, Calif., and one great-grandson, Luke Calhoun, of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Verna Luker, of Lineville, and Ann Wilson, of Opelika, and three brothers, Robert Brown Jr., of Wedowee, Cecil Brown, of Woodland, and Vernon Brown, also of Woodland. Mrs. Calhoun was born April 14, 1927, the daughter of Robert L. and Annie Bolt Brown in Jackson County, Alabama. She was a homemaker and Baptist by faith. Mrs. Calhoun was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Willie Brown and Lowell Brown, and one sister, Lorene Burke. Benefield Funeral Home 17624 Highway 431 Wedowee, AL 36278 256-357-2888
