MOORE Mattie F. Moore, age 80, of Fairfield, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at the Jewish Home. Born in Elton, Ky. Mattie was a resident of Bridgeport from 1947 until 1998 until she was placed into the care of the Jewish Home in Fairfield, becoming their first African American long term resident. She was a graduate of Central High School in Louisville, Ky. and attended Kentucky State College in Lexington, Ky. Her employment years were spent at General Electric, several nursing homes in the area, Michael's Jewelers and Lenox Jewelers. Mattie was a member of Mother Wiggins Gospel Choir, the East End Baptist tabernacle Church. she was a former PTA president at Newfield Elementary School and served in numerous volunteer capacities of which the East End Little League was one. She was a member of "Our Social Club". Her husband Noyal J. Moore, III, son Clyde R. Moore and daughter Frances O. Moore predeceased her. Survivors include two sons, Noyal J. Moore IV of Massachusetts, and Gerald R. Moore of Bridgeport; a daughter, Katie L. Tompkins of Bridgeport, six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 11, 2004, 10 a.m. at East End Baptist Tabernacle Church, 548 Central Avenue, Bridgeport with Rev. Michael Cummings, officiating. Interment will take place Saturday, June 12, 2004, 10:30 a.m. at the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call Friday, June 11, 2004, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the church. Morton's Mortuary, 25 Margaret E. Morton Lane, Bridgeport, is in charge of arrangements.
