WINTER HAVEN -- Mrs. Mary R. Wright of Winter Haven had a penchant for roses.Mrs. Wright died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Friday (July 8, 2005). She was 87.Born June 11, 1918, in Tower City, Pa., Mrs. Wright came here from Gainesville.Her daughter, Diane Draper of Winter Haven, said her mother had natural ability when it came to the piano."Someone would ask her to play a tune, and she could play it by ear."Mrs. Wright kept a rose bush in her back yard -- a distinct childhood memory for Draper."The scent, it was constantly in the house where I grew up," she said. "There were always fresh roses."Every time her friends were sick, she would give them a vase of home-grown roses."Lewis Wright, Mrs. Wright's husband, owned Wright Pest Control. While she was primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Wright helped keep the books for the business.Mrs. Wright's peaceful death was reassuring to her family, her daughter said."That is what made it easier for us," she said. "That is how we knew God was watching her."Mrs. Wright was a member of Lake Region Country Club and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winter Haven.In addition to Draper and her husband of 60 years, Mrs. Wright is survived by daughters Gail Forbes and Pamela Burr, both of Winter Haven, and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Winter Haven. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Winter Haven.
