WRIGHT, Mary Josephine Bernadette (Nee Grand) Bernadette passed away at the age of 95, peacefully and with great dignity in the presence of her family on April 10, 2005 at Carlingview Manor. Bernadette was predecessed by her loving husband Austin (Aussie) 2002. Bernie will be sadly missed by her son John and daughter-in-law Virginia (Rowden) of Mississauga, as well as family and friends. Bernadette was born in Rocheford, Ontario in 1909 and was raised by her loving Grandmother Mrs. Herbert Grand. As a young woman she worked with "the Bell" as a telephone operator on Parliament Hill and was chosen to operate the switchboard at Rideau Hall during the Royal visit of 1939. Bernadette married Austin J. Wright in Vancouver in 1940 and they were posted to several RCAF bases in western and central Canada. Settling in Ontario, she became a mother in 1950, to John, her darling son. A devout Catholic, she served with the Catholic Women's League, including a term as president in the 1970s. After retirement, Aussie and Bernie traveled to the UK and most recently in the 1990s both the east and west coasts. John and Virginia want to extend their heart felt thanks to the staff of Carlingview Manor for their loving care and attention shown to Bernie over the last five years. A memorial service will be held on April 14, 2005 at 1 p.m. at the McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road. In lieu flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
