HARPSWELL — Mary D. Wilson, 86, of Harpswell, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath.Mary was born in Harpswell, Maine, on Oct. 31, 1923, a daughter of Elmer K. and Katie F. Curtis Wilson.She spent her younger years on the family farm on High Head, where she and her sister Eleanor grew up.She attended Harpswell Elementary schools and graduated from Brunswick High School. She graduated from Providence Bible Institute in 1949 and later from Gorham State Teachers College. Mary also received her Master's degree in library service from the University of Maine.For most of her life, she taught elementary school and had taught at Barters Island, Union, Cumberland Center and West Gardiner. After her teaching career, she worked in the library at Sanford Junior High School, where she advocated for a new library that was built.She was a member of the Maine Educators Association, National Educators Association, and the Bath-Brunswick Retired Teachers Association.Mary had a strong faith and was a member of the Elijah Kellogg Church, where she was very active and taught Sunday school and Bible Study.She loved the beauty of nature, and was very interested in local history.Her family and friends were most important to her. She and Eleanor were a constant, ongoing positive influence on their relatives. Mary is survived by her sister, Eleanor, of Harpswell, and several cousins.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Elijah Kellogg Church in Harpswell.Burial will be in the spring at Hillcrest Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's memory to the Elijah Kellogg Church, 917 Harpswell Neck Road, Harpswell, Maine 04079, Harpswell Neck Fire & Rescue, c/o Ruth Rose, P.O.
