Mary Gillespie White, 82, of 125 Broughton Drive, went to be with her Lord Saturday, September 23, 2006, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Easley, SC, Mary was the wife of Robert L. White and the daughter of the late Lee and Elmira McWhorter Gillespie. She retired from Meyers Arnold after 20 years as a salesperson. She was active in her church during her life on earth, serving as a teacher while at Eastlan, Fair Heights and White Oak Baptist churches in Primary 1 and 2. Before her spirit left to be with Christ, she was a member of Northgate Baptist Church but due to sickness was unable to attend regularly. Mary never met a stranger and had a smile for everyone. She was kindhearted and generous to all. Her greatest pleasure was gardening, where she spent countless hours and days. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her, but are rejoicing that she is free from the bonds that kept her hostage for the past four years. In addition to her loving husband, Mary is survived by two sons, Frank "Skip" White and his wife, Becky of Cleveland, and Ray D. White and his wife, Genie of Taylors; three grandchildren, Paul C. White of Charleston, Heather White Place and her husband, Scott of Greenville, and Nathanael White and his wife, Heather of Simpsonville; four great-grandchildren, Grayson Iligan, Jacob Place, Gabriel and Sarah White; and a brother, Roger Gillespie of Greer. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2006, at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Rememberance Chapel. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The family will be at the residence.
