Mary-Walker-Thomas Mitchell, spouse of John-Solon Mitchell, daughter of Joseph and Fannie-Milikin, mother of Frances, died on December 1, 2009. Please consult the obituary here:
MITCHELL, Mary Walker Thomas 93 and 3/4, Tampa, died Dec. 1, 2009. She was born in Jesup, GA, the daughter of Joseph H. and Fannie Milikin Thomas. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Langerfeld (James); grandchildren, Johanna, Thomas, Joseph and Friedrich; nieces and nephews, Caroline Bosbyshell (William), St. Petersburg; Esther Smith (James), McLean, VA; Elizabeth Freyer (Frederick), St. Simon's Island, GA; Ann Mitchell, Barksdale AFB, LA; John Mitchell (Charlotte), Atlanta, GA; Cameron Kane (Ginger), Marietta, GA; and Robin Kane, Decatur, GA. She was predeceased by her husband, John Solon Mitchell; parents, brothers Edwin (Frances) and Joseph (Leslie); sisters, Grace, Mildred and Frances; niece, and namesake Katherine Mary Kane; and nephew, Philip Duncombe Kane, Decatur, GA. She graduated from The University of Georgia, living for a time with her brother, Joe Thomas, in Jesup, then following her brother, Edwin Thomas, and sister, Frances Thomas, to Tampa in 1937. Lifelong Episcopalians, she and John were married at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Tampa, where John's parents and grandparents were also married. She was a member of DeSoto Chapter, NSDAR; Edmund Sheffield Chapter NSCD XVII; Tampa Chapter 113 UDC; The John Donaldson, Jr. Chapter of the NSDAC; and Delta Delta Delta Sorority. A Home Economics major at The University of Georgia, she was an avid gardener, seamstress, doll maker, and quilter until her stroke in 2007. An accomplished cook, she will be especially remembered by her family and friends for her delicious meals and extensive recipe collection. A Eucharist celebrating her life will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Dec. 5 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 906 S. Orleans, Tampa.
