WILSON, Mary Virginia Sale, 73, passed away peacefully at homeSaturday, February 20, 2010, surround-ed by family. She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Wilson Proctor and husband, Brian, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Mary Winifred Wilson Proudfoot and husband, Robert, of Tampa; brother, James L. Sale Jr. and wife, Dianne, of Tampa; four grandchildren, Virginia Austin Smith, Warren Hamilton Smith, Robert Lee Proudfoot Jr. and Margaret Elizabeth Proudfoot; nephews, James Lee and Joseph Sale; and paternal aunt, Martha S. Ferman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland A Wilson III. A sixth generation Tampa native, she attended public schools, graduating from H.B. Plant High School and The Florida State University. She followed a family calling as a teacher in public and private schools. Mary Virginia was a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity, Junior League of Tampa, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Chiselers University of Tampa support group, and the Tampa Yacht and Country Club. She was confirmed at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in 1958, where she actively participated as a member of the vestry, past president of St. Monica' s Chapter, past president of the Episcopal Church Women, and a choir and bell choir member. A mission trip with her church to the Dominican Republic was an opportunity to live out her faith. Family times shared at their home on Little Gasparilla Island were an important part of her life. A memorial gathering for family and friends will take place 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday February 23, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave. A celebration of life service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, at St. Andrew' s Episcopal Church, 509 E. Twiggs St., Tampa, 33602, with the Rev. John Reese officiating. A reception will follow immediately at the church parish hall. Contributions may be made to the St. Andrew' s Foundation or the ALS Association, Florida Chapter.
