->Tower, Mary LivingstoneRochester: Died peacefully on March 6, 2012, at age 82. Predeceased by her parents, Dr. James L. Tower and Dr. Louise F. Tower. Survived by family, Joyce & Rodney Perry, Britton (Pamela) Perry, Brooke and Quinn Perry, Seth (Elizabeth) Perry, Ronan Perry, Amanda (Josef) Krotz, Emily Krotz, Nathan Perry (Kaycee Davis); dear friends, Betty Lawrence and Janet Cooper; countless friends from St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Mary was born in Syracuse, NY and spent her growing up years in NY State and New Hampshire. She attended Westtown School, then Goucher College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1951. She did graduate work at Bryn Mawr College, received a Master's Degree in Library Science, and worked for many years for the Bryn Mawr Public Library. Mary worked for the Rochester Public Library as Adult Services Consultant and as Head of Extension and Bookmobile Services from 1980 to 2001. Mary spent many vacations camping in the Adirondacks and Maine wilderness, and loved all creatures great and small. She devoted her energies to many causes, both civic and cultural. She served St. Thomas Episcopal Church as Director of the Altar Guild, Clerk of the Vestry, and in many activities of daily ministry. Her tireless dedication to helping others, and her profound empathy for so many were legendary, as were her independence of mind, pioneering spirit, and loyalty. Friends may call Sunday, 3-5 PM at the Anthony Funeral Chapel (2305 Monroe Ave.). A Memorial Service will be held Monday, 1 PM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2000 Highland Ave. Contributions in her name may be made to the Highland Hospital Foundation (1000 Highland Ave., Box 40, Rochester, NY 14620) for a memorial stained glass window.
