Mary-Toombs-Fortson Darby, born in 1914, spouse of St Darby, daughter of Marie-Fitzpatrick and Laurence-Ogilvie, mother of Laura Anne Darby and Robe, died on September 16, 2004 at 90 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
-> Washington - Mary Toombs Fortson Darby, 90, died September 16, 2004 at her home on East Robert Toombs Avenue. Mrs. Darby was a beloved lifetime resident of Washington and was the daughter of Marie Fitzpatrick Forston and Laurence Ogilvie Fortson of Washington; the granddaughter of Thomas and Helena Deale Fitzpatrick who built the Fitzpatrick Hotel, and Thomas Edward Fortson and Sarah Richardson Toombs Fortson. She was the widow of Robert Milton Darby and the sister of the late Mildred Fortson Anderson, Mrs. Darby was a devout Catholic all of her life and was a lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Washington. She was most proud of her Georgia heritage. She was a descendent of U.S. Senator, Congressmen and Brigadeer General, Robert Toombs of the Confederate Army and Washington. She was most interested in the historical preservation of Washington, Georgia and often visited relatives in Savannah. Survivors include three sons, Robe rt Milton Darby and his wife of Atlanta and St. Simons Island, Thomas Fortson Darby, Westport, CT and Henry Laurence Darby and his wife of Atlanta; daughter, Laura Anne Darby Houpt of Washington.
