MARY THERESA BARRETT 93, passed away at Florida Hospital, Lake Placid, Fla. on January 3, 2009. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary O' Brien. Mary grew up and raised her son in Milford, Conn. She moved to Florida at the age of 65, when she retired from Textron as an office manager. Prior to that, she worked at Yale Medical School as a secretary. After retiring to Florida, Mary devoted her life for ten years to taking care of her ill sister. Mary was a devout Catholic and attended St. Catherine Catholic Church in Sebring. She was always there for everyone any time someone needed a shoulder to lean on, was full of life and brought happiness to everyone she came in contact with. She was one of the most kind and compassionate person God has ever put on this earth! In the past couple of years she taught craft classes at Nu-Hope. Mary was truly a gift to all of us here on Earth that we will treasure forever, now God has taken her back to heaven to be by his side. Mary is survived by a son, John T. Barrett, and his wife, Kathy Barrett of Sebring; granddaughters, Cindy Gilliam Dutton of Wauchula, Fla., and Dawn Summer, of N.C.; Grandson, Joshua Barrett of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; great-grandsons, Noel and Kalan Summer of N.C. and Jaden Barrett, Lake City, Fla.; Niece, Betsy Herrsher and husband Tom, of Milford, Conn.; nephew, Paul Daniels, and wife Linda, of Orange, Conn. and very dear friends Al and Sandy Pelski, Lake Placid, Fla. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Grace O' Brien and Florence O' Brien Daniels and brother, Henry O' Brien, the Archbishop of Hartford, Conn. A memorial service will take place 10a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009, at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Sebring with Father J. Peter Sheehan officiating. A celebration of life will be held immediately following the service at The Groves.
