Waterford - Mary T. Peters, 89, wife of the late Raymond J. Peters, passed away at home on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, in the loving care of her children.Mary shared an incredible unselfish love, deep religious faith, and strong family values with her late husband Raymond in their nearly 60 years of marriage. Mary was born in Lynn, Mass., on June 13, 1923, the daughter of the late John and Ellen O'Neill.She was predeceased by her brothers, James and John O'Neill.An incredibly loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother, she is survived by her children, Ellen and Daniel Turro of Shelton and their daughter, Christy, and her husband, Seth Chiaramonte and Mary's great-granddaughter, Aria of Seymour; Thomas and Kathleen Peters of Mansfield, and their children, Amy and Sean; Anne Peters and Robert Corriea of Exeter, R.I. and their daughter, Shauna; Joseph and Maureen Peters of East Lyme and their boys, Brendan, Kevin and Liam; Maureen and Richard Westbrook of Westbrook and their children, Nicholas and Samantha; and Theresa and David Rahr of Waterford and their daughter, Lauren.Mary graduated from Simmons College with a degree in library science. While a librarian on the book mobile in the Berkshires, she met her husband, Raymond. She shared her love of books as a volunteer in the library at her church and in the children's school library and later worked in the children's room at the Groton Public Library.She gave unselfishly to her children and grandchildren, making their education a priority. She sewed beautifully and made dozens of costumes, spent hours helping with homework, and attended countless sporting events, plays, concerts, and other school activities in support of her children and grandchildren. She welcomed all of their friends into her home and made holidays a special treat with her delicious apple pies. She was a long time member and volunteer of Sacred Heart Church and a regular volunteer at Red Cross Blood Drives, at Sacred Heart School and St. Bernard's High School.The children are grateful and proud to have been raised by such an unselfish woman. She led by example and taught them to be strong and independent, but at the same time to be kind and caring of others.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Drive, Groton. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New London.
