Obituary of Mary-Sue Cox


Mary Sue Cox, 90, of 3 Hoke Smith Boulevard, Rolling Green Village, died May 11, 2002. Born in Brevard, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Jesse Earl and Sue Hodges Cox. She was Librarian at the Greenville County Library for 35 yearsand previously was Librarian at Greenwood County and Cherokee County. She began the BookMobile in Greenville County in the early 1950s. She was a lifelong and active member of Central Baptist Church, now Earle Street Baptist Church, where she was teacher in the Primary Sunday School Department for many years. She was a member of the Women's On Mission Circle. She was a graduate of Greenville Womans College in 1933 and Columbia University, New York City, in 1938, where she received a Bachelors Degree in Library Science. She was one of the original residents at Rolling Green Village. She is survived by many loving and devoted cousins. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at The Mackey Mortuary, 311 Century Drive, with a private burial for the family at Springwood Cemetery. The Rev. Stephen F. Clyborne will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Russell Smart Endowment for the Mildred Smith Health Center at Rolling Green Village, 1 Hoke Smith Boulevard, Greenville, SC 29615, or Pelham Road Baptist Church, 1108 Pelham Road, Greenville, SC 29615.
