Obituary of Mary Smith


SMITH Mrs. Mary (Milia) Smith, age 91, formerly of Fleet Street, Waterbury, died Saturday, January 25, 2003, at the Health Center of Greater Waterbury. She was the widow of John T. Smith Sr. Mrs. Smith was born on May 16, 1911, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Calogero and Maria (Spampinato) Milia, and was a lifelong city resident. She was educated in Waterbury schools. She was a former communicant of St. Thomas Church and a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. She leaves four sons, John T. Smith Jr. of Naugatuck, attorney James R. Smith of Middlebury, Thomas C. Smith of Southbury, and attorney Robert W. Smith of Middlebury; two daughters, Barbara C. Smith of Stratford and Mary Anne Nirka of Waterbury; three brothers, Charles Milia of Watertown, Chester Milia and Arthur Milia, both of Waterbury; four sisters, Rose Ciano of Middlebury, Roberta Capuano of Waterbury, Ethel Vendetti of Watertown and Connie Martusis of Bristol; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mulville Funeral Home, 270 West Main Street, to the Immaculate Conception Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the new St. Joseph‚s Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.
