Mary Ellis Lavender Smith, 83, formerly of 1 Pine Bluff Extension, wife of sixty-four years to the Rev. Sampson Smith, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at her daughter's home in Charleston. Born in Cordele, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Walter Ellis Sr. and Hassie Lillian Brown Lavender. She was a homemaker and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Church of God of Prophecy. In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Kenneth Wayne Smith Sr. of Summerville; a daughter, Lynda S. Daniel of Charleston; a sister, Louise Middlebrooks of Silver Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Kenneth W. Smith Jr. of Goose Creek, Valerie H. Scott of Charleston, Gregory L. Holder Sr. of Summerville; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Cox; and a brother, Walter E. Lavender Jr. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer with the Rev. Harry Ramey and the Rev. Luther Cooke officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.
