Obituary of Mary Smith


Mary Ovaleen Bridges Smith, 84, formerly of Gray Drive, widow of Samuel Boyd "Sam" Smith, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Carolina House of Bluffton.Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie L. and Elizabeth Gaines Bridges. She retired from Fiber Industries in Greenville and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Belton.Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Dick Haars, of San Carlos, Calif., Phyllis and Hoyt Spearman, of Hilton Head, Sybil and Joseph "Shot" Roper, of Williamston, and Lana and Gabe Acebo, of Central; a daughter, Bonnie Smith Rodriquez, of Austin, Texas; a son, Sam Jr., and Ann Smith, of Fort Worth, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gray Mortuary Chapel in Pelzer, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Mize and the Rev. Dean Webb. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.Grandsons, Marty Spearman, Michael Rodriquez, Patrick Rodriquez, Stephen Smith, David Smith, Rhett Haars, Derek Haars and Samuel B. Smith III will serve as pallbearers.The family is at the home of Joseph and Sybil Roper, 3 Springdale Drive, Williamston; and will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
