MARIETTA, Ga. - Mary Selman Burt Maxwell, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2007. She was born November 29, 1914 to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Foster Selman of Douglasville, Georgia. She is preceded in death by her first husband of 51 years, William McCoy Burt of Pittsview, Alabama; her second husband of 11 years, John Vivian Maxwell of Augusta, Georgia; her brother, Dorris; and sister, Martha Selman Maxwell. Thirty six years of her marriage to Mr. Burt were spent living in Pittsview, Alabama. They also lived for a few years in Phenix City, Alabama, Mobile, Alabama, and Dunwoody, Georgia. After his death and her marriage to Mr. Maxwell, she moved to Augusta, Georgia. Upon his death, she then moved to Marietta, Georgia and lived at Sunrise of East Cobb until the time of her death. Mrs. Maxwell was a member of the DAR, the UDC, and the Pittsview Methodist Church. She attended the Johnson Ferry Baptist Church while living at Sunrise. In 2004, Mrs. Maxwell received an honorary degree from Shorter College, which she attended in 1931, through Second Wind Dreams. She is survived by her 4 daughters, Mrs. Jerry Box (Marianna) of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Roy Elliott Jr. (Susan) of Roswell, Georgia, Mrs. Roy Goodwin (Selly) of Evans, Georgia, Mrs. Gene Neal (Jane) of Augusta, Georgia; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and one god daughter, Mrs. Ed Burnette (Elaine) of Gainsville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association, The Diabetes Association, or Pittsview Methodist Church, Pittsview, Alabama 36871 in memory of Mary. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Vance Funeral Home, Phoenix City, Alabama and a service will be held at the Pittsview Methodist Church, Pittsview, Alabama on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. CST.
