Bradenton, Fla. - Mary Ruth (McConnell) Kent, former resident of New London, died in the early morning hours of May 4, 2014.She was born in Lafayette, Ind., on Oct. 19, 1920, but spent most of her youth in Franklin, Ind. She attended Franklin College, and much later received an MLIS from University of Rhode Island in 1983.In 1942, she married John Franklin Kent, also of Franklin, Ind., and moved with him to Ithaca, N.Y., where they resided until 1950. They then went to Ann Arbor, Mich., where their three daughters were born. In 1957, they moved to New London and lived there until 1995. She was a long-term employee of the libraries of Connecticut College as a cataloger, a serials librarian, and finally Shain Library's first special collections librarian. In 1995, she and her husband moved to a retirement community in Bradenton, Fla., where she resided until her death.She is survived by her three daughters, Jane Kent Gionfriddo of Cambridge, Mass., and Middletown, Carrie Kent of Mystic, and Sally Kent of Stevens Point, Wis. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Catherine Anne Gionfriddo and Jack and Daisy Humsey.Internment will be private.Donations may be made in her name to the Kent Family Book Fund, at Shain Library, Connecticut College.
