MARY RUTH DAVIS WHEELER, IN Mary Ruth Davis, 83 of Wheeler, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the VNA Hospice Center. She was born September 12, 1925 in Gary, the daughter of Toby and Isis (Martin) Bivens. Mary was a clerk and later the Postmaster of the Wheeler Post Office for many years. She was a member of the Wheeler United Methodist Church and a member of WSCS at the church. Mary was a volunteer with Trade Winds for disabled children. On October 8, 1950 in Wheeler, she married Laurel Earl Davis, who preceded her in death December 15, 2008. Surviving is a son, Larry A. Davis of Hebron; and two brothers: Don Bivens of Valparaiso and Toby Bivens, Jr. of Portage. Her parents; and two sisters: Thelma Covault and Vera Diggin also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 1:30 PM at Bartholomew Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday July 15, 2009 11:00 AM until time of services at 1:30 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the V.N.A. Hospice Center or the Wheeler United Methodist Church.
