Obituary of Mary-Rogers Williams


Macon - Mary was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Edward Rogers, of Newton, Alabama. Mrs. Williams was a graduate of the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She was a past president of the Vineville United Methodist Women, a past president of the Medical Auxiliary, a past president of the Macon Symphony Guild, a past president of the Salvation Army Board of Directors, and a past Town Chairman of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the state of Georgia. Mrs. Williams was also a member of the Morning Music Club, the Macon History Club, the Rivoli Garden Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was the 1999 recipient of the Salvation Army's Caring and Sharing Award for a lifetime of giving to the Salvation Army and the Macon community. Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Dr. Thomas H. Williams; her daughters, Mary Ella Hill (Mrs. Frank Ridley), of Athens, Georgia, Martha Berg (Mrs. James Anderson, Jr.), and Rebecca Shiver (Mrs. Donald Lee), of Macon; her son, Thomas H. Williams, III, (Nancy Harris), of Macon; grandchildren, Frank Ridley Hill, Jr., Mary Eason "Molly" Hill, Charles Dougherty Hill , James Anderson Berg, III, (Valli Causey), Thomas Rogers Berg, Sarah Ellen Williams, Mary Katherine Persons, and Martha Frances Shiver; and devoted companions and friends, Ellen and Johnny Miller and Mattie Lou Jones. A memorial service for Mary Rogers Williams will be held at Vineville United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 14th at 2 p.m. The family can be reached at the home of Martha and Jimbo Berg, 4708 Moor Park, Macon, GA 31210. The family requests that donations be made to the Methodist Home for Children & Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204, the Salvation Army, 1955 Broadway, Macon, GA 31206 or Vineville United Methodist Church, 2045 Vineville Avenue, Macon, GA 31204. Burial will be private in Riverside Cemetery.Snow's Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
