<!-- DisplayFullObituaryText -->Mary Lucille Gentry Roberts, 89, passed away at home surrounded by her family on August 9, 2013. Mary was born October 18, 1923 in her Grandfather Erickson home in Richfield, Utah, to Milton Henry Gentry and Ivy Jane Erickson. She married Spencer E. Roberts on October 21, 1945 in Pioche, NV. They made their home in Minersville, Utah, later moving to Cedar City, Utah in 1951. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple June 27,1964. They were blessed with seven children.Mother was raised in Beaver Utah, where she graduated from her beloved Beaver High School in 1941. While growing up, her family lived each summer at their Fremont Ranch, South of Beaver. Mom so loved the Ranch and her precious memories there; they endeared her love for "the Old West" with its music, character and heritage.Mother was blessed with a very special gift. She began playing the piano "by ear" at age 3, on the piano her Mother won as Miss Utah 1914. She composed her first song when she was only 14, and she continued to compose nearly 60 more songs throughout her life. Her music has great variety and distinctive style. Mother had her own Radio Program on KSUB in the 1950's. Later, her music was heard by the Lawrence Welk Show staff, and she was invited to their studios to play on their television program; due to the untimely death of the Lennon Sisters father, the show was cancelled. She enjoyed playing the piano for many years at the Senior Citizen Center in Cedar City. Mom's other artistic talents include writing, drawing and painting. Mothers love for life, her Heavenly Father, her talents and each one of us, truly has blessed our lives with a unique richness that is so uncommon and needed in this world.Mom was raised during the Great Depression and World War II. She gained a great love of Country and learned the power of love as their family struggled to make a living. Neighbors loved and supported and looked after each other.. .family relationships were precious. She and her generation have given us a great example to follow and live by.Mary had a tremendous memory.... recalling precious people, music, times, places and those events that blessed her life and the lives of others. She deeply loved others. She cherished relationships. She made us feel a sense of true joy, as she recognized the great worth of each individual. She has forever captured our hearts and we realize that nothing can take the place of a Mothers love and the love of a true friend. She is survived by her seven children: Dan and (Jane) Roberts; Paul and (Pauline) Roberts; Kathy and (Jack) Jones; Judy and (Doug) Lindsay; Sally Green; Annie and (Kevin) Schoppmann and Mark Roberts; 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
