Services for Mary Rice Upton 72 will be 2:00 PM Sunday April 11 2004 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Mifflin Road with Dr. W. Elzie Danley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Upton died Friday April 9 2004 at her residence. She was born in Madison County daughter of the late Hugh and Mary Blankenship Rice and was a graduate of Beech Bluff High School and West TN Business College. She retired in 1996 from Jackson Utility Division with 38 years of service. Mrs. Upton was a long time member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she had served on numerous committees and had taught Sunday School for more than forty years. Survivors include her husband of forty-three years Bobby Upton; 3 sisters Bessie Heidelberg Lucy Allison and Joyce Corley; and two special nieces Claire An Mei and Kate An Li Learned. Casketbearers to serve are Bill Deloach Bruce Heidelberg Richard Learned Ryan Benson Matthew Cook and Justin Davis nephews of Mrs. Upton. Honorary casketbearers are Gloria Jeter Vaughn David and Donald 'Bo' Deaton. The family requests that memorials be directed to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church or the Dialysis Clinic of Jackson. Visitation will be today from 5:00 ? 8:00 PM at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Mrs. Upton will lie in state at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. George A.
