Mary Rachel Davis, age 79, of Crystal River, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday Sept. 22, 2011, at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL. Mary was born December 7, 1931, in Corner Brook, New Foundland, Canada, to George and Alice Randell. She was the owner and operator of Mary's Daycare center in Crystal River for 25 years, a member of the American Legion Post 155 Auxiliary, Crystal River, and a member of the Red Level Baptist Church. She enjoyed bingo and other activities with her family. Mary was preceded in death by her two sons, Cecil Davis Jr. and George Davis; and a granddaughter, Alice Smith. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Cecil W. Davis Sr., and three daughters, Becky Smith (Dolan) and Jenny Gubbins (Jeff) both of Crystal River, and Cindy Davis of Headland, AL; one son, Jeff Davis (Christina), of Pansey, AL; two daughters-in –law, June Davis, of Crystal River, and Myrtle Davis, of Buckhannon, WV; four sisters, Flo Randell and Helen Reid, both of Corner Brook, New Foundland, Canada, May Marshall of Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, and Elizabeth Morley, of Nova Scotia, Canada; and a brother Fred Randell of Grand Falls, New Foundland, Canada. Nine grandchildren, Dolan II, Kandy, Rachel, Cecil III, Keith, George II, Nicole, Derek and Kim; and 16 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. at the Red Level Baptist Church in Red Level, FL, with the Reverends Randy Wilkerson and Matt Blackmon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow at the Cross City Cemetery in Cross City, FL, under the Direction of Strickland Funeral Home Crystal River, FL. The family suggests that those who wish, in lieu of flowers, may make a memorial contribution to the Red Level Baptist Church in Memory of Mary Davis.
