Mary R. Jackson, age 83, died on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Newton Health Care Center after a period of declining health. She was born on Feb. 9, 1927 in Baker, LA to Jimmie Robinson and Irene Simmons. She is survived by her son, Edward Gibson of Thibodeaux, LA; his children, Jimmie Dion Gibson, Katherine Brown and Chalanda Cook; his six great grandchildren; her brother, Jimmie Gibson of Baton Rouge, LA; nephew John Grayer and his spouse, Adriane, of Baton Rouge, LA; Georgia Tackno of Chandler, AZ; Dr. Diana Grayer and her spouse, Sheridan Gold, of Petaluma, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mary spent most of her adult life in New Orleans, LA, caring for others including the families of Caroline Sontheimer of New Orleans, LA and Laura Glen of New Orleans, LA. After Hurricane Katrina, she moved to Newton, MA to live near Isabelle Thacker, Yvonne Thomas, Lincoln Paine and Tiffany Jilek and their families. She will be remembered for devotion to her family and friends, her incredible spirit and love, her sense of humor and her amazing cooking. Memorial services will be held at Myrtle Baptist Church, 21 Curve St., W. Newton, MA on Monday, June 7 at 2:00 p.m. and in Louisiana at a later date. Kindly omit flowers.
