<!-- FH = Westmoreland Funeral Home -->MARY GORDON STROUD PITTMANMARION - Mrs. Mary Gordon Stroud Pittman, age 83, of the Pleasant Gardens community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2013 at the Elizabeth House of Four Seasons Hospice in Hendersonville. Her loving family was by her side at her passing and now rejoice in the knowledge that she is in her eternal home with her Lord and Savior. She was born in McDowell County on April 5, 1929 to the late Gordon Erwin and Ellen Edwards Erwin. Mary Gordon was a life-long member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church having begun worshipping there back when it was called Clear Creek Baptist Church. After graduating from Pleasant Gardens High School she went on to graduate from Cecil's Business College in Asheville. Early in her work life she worked at Drexel Furniture and Roy Morrow Jewelers in Marion but she will be most remembered for the more than 30 years that she served as the bookkeeper at Hawkins Lumber Company. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and she cherished her church family as much as her own. Her first husband, Fred "Shorty" Stroud, preceded her in death.Surviving are her husband, A Ray Pittman of the home; four children, Terry C. Stroud and wife, Brenda, of Garner, Judy Stroud of Hendersonville, Shannon Brackett and husband, Neil, of Marion and Tammy Allison and husband, Kris, of Weaverville; three step-children, Robin Taylor and husband, John, of Rutherfordton, Vickie Hughes and husband, Joe, of Rutherfordton, and Keena Turner and husband, Mike, of South Carolina; a sister, Ruth Killough of Marion; four grandchildren, Justin Stroud of Garner, Tara Stroud of Raleigh, and Tuccoa and Kassie Brackett of Marion; and one great grandson, Carter Stroud.A service in celebration of her life and homegoing will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Allen officiating. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary immediately following the service. A private graveside committal service took place previously. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her church at 214 PG Baptist Church Road, Marion, NC 28752, or to Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House at 581 South Allen Road, Hendersonville, NC 28731.Westmoreland Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
