Retired Masters Tournament Staff AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Palmer Welborn Pierce, widow of the late Benjamin Eugene Pierce, Jr., entered into rest on Monday, August 14, 2006 at her residence. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. Gerald Ragan officiating. Mrs. Pierce had retired from the Masters Tournament Staff after 25 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, a member of the daughters of American Colonists, St. John's Parish Chapter, a charter member of the Wildwood Garden Club of Augusta, as well as serving on the Fundraising Committee for St. Joseph Hospital. She enjoyed spending time at the beach and in the mountains, and loved playing bridge. She was loved by both family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son, Benjamin Eugene Pierce III, and his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Mary Welborn Pierce Scott, and her husband, Michael; two sisters, Isabel W. Sands, and husband, Marcus, and Nancy W. Wood and husband, William; two sisters in law, Barbara Pierce and Mariam Walker Pierce and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her four special friends, Shirley, Maryann, Delores and Kathy. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Terry Winston Welborn and Catherine Isabel Sullivan Welborn, and her two brothers, Jule Warren Welborn and Terry Winston Welborn, Jr. If so desired, memorials may be made in Mrs. Pierce's honor to the Catholic Social Services, 811 12th Street, Augusta, Georgia, 30901, or to the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, Georgia, 30904.
