Obituary of Mary-P. Hayes


HAMDEN – Mary Pontillo Hayes, of 42 Norwood Ave., wife of the late John P. (Jack) Hayes, died Aug. 17, 2008, in St. Raphael's Hospital. Mrs. Hayes was born in New Haven, May 18, 1923, daughter of the late Christy and Clementina Affinito Pontillo. She was, before her retirement, Republican Registrar of Voters for the City of New Haven. She was a resident of Hamden for many years and a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She was the loving mother of Mary Ellen Peregolise and her husband, Jerry of Hamden, Katherine Marchitto and her husband, Thomas of Wallingford and Christy Hayes and his wife, Patricia of Trumbull. She is also survived by seven cherished grandchildren, Brendan, Christy and Jack Hayes, Matthew and Adam Peregolise, and Kate and Brian Marchitto. She was predeceased by three brothers, Sam, Christy and Louis Pontillo. Funeral services are from Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10 a.m. Friends may call, Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Hospital of St. Raphael Foundation, 1450 Chapel St., New Haven 06511.
