Mary-Ollie Davis, born in 1916, spouse of Karen Cantrell, daughter of William-Anderson-Hackney and Goldie-Ellen, mother of Donald, died on September 8, 2009 at 93 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
Mary Ollie (Hackney) Davis, 93, passed to her eternal spiritual reward Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in Ozark Nursing & Care Center. Her parents, William Anderson Hackney and Goldie Ellen (Murphy) Hackney raised her on a farm in Willard, Mo. She graduated from Willard High School in 1934, then began working in Springfield. Mary married Leslie W. Davis, a Zales salesman, in 1942. Their only child Donald was born in 1945. He married Karen Cantrell in 1967 and they provided Mary two grandchildren, Leslye Dawn Davis and Bradley Jay Davis. Mary became a Christian at an early age and joined Glenstone Baptist Church in 1970, where she remained a member until her passing. For thirty years she was a member of the Ozarks Genealogical Society and was a member of the DAR. Her career in sales included service at Woolworth's, Plimmers, Sew & Sew Fabrics, The Place and Dillard's. Mary was a sweet, loving mother, grandmother and aunt with many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Goldie, husband Leslie; granddaughter, Leslye; sister, Ethel (Hackney) McNish and; nephew, Joe McNish. She is survived by son, Donald and his wife Karen of Springfield; grandson, Bradley of Springfield; nephew, John David Wiley of Davidson, N.C.; and nieces, Mary Ellen (Cameron) Farris of Rockaway Beach, Mo., Reba (McNish) Youngblood of Hollister, Mo., Ruth (McNish) Patrick of Grain Valley, Mo., Mary Wiley of Charlotte, N.C., Coralyn (Wiley) Harn of Sherrills Ford, N.C., and Martha (Wiley) Holton of Tucson, Ariz. The family greatly appreciates the staff of Ozark Nursing and Care Center for the attention and care provided Mary during her final thirty months. Also appreciated are nurses and other staff of St. John's Hospice Care for their special service. Thank you all. Both visitation and the funeral service will be conducted at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO 65804. Floral gifts should be sent to the funeral home. The family visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2009. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2009; it will be followed by a brief graveside service at Eastlawn Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made in honor of Mary Davis to the Building Fund at Glenstone Baptist Church, 413 S. Glenstone, Springfield, MO 65802.
