Powell, Mary O.Dec. 25, 1920 - Nov. 9, 2007Mary O. (Byham) Powell, 86, Mechanicsburg, Pa., formerly of Meadville, Pa., Obi, N.Y., and Sarasota, died Nov. 9, 2007.Memorial services will be held at the family's convenience with burial in the Cochranton, Pa., cemetery.Survivors include a son, Fred, and his wife, Becky, of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Shirley, and her husband, David Parish of Massachusetts; sister, Berneice Lackey of Olean, N.Y.; brother, Frank Byham and his wife, Nancy, of Meadville; four grandchildren and spouses, Kelly Powell Logan, Jeff Powell, Don Powell and Sharon Powell Weidner; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one brother, Wayne Byham.Born Dec. 25, 1920, in Guys Mills, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel (Walters) Byham.Mary graduated from Randolph, Pa., High School in 1938, and was employed by Montgomery Ward in Meadville. Later she was a partner in Fred Powell and Son; then Powell and Lackey; then Powell's Furniture and Appliances in Obi from 1945 to 1976, at which time she and her husband retired to Sarasota, where they lived for 23 years.She held leadership positions in the United Methodist churches in Portville, N.Y., and Vamo. While in Obi, Konrad Matho and Wolfgang Haberman (German exchange students) became part of her family. She was a member of Portville Eastern Star and the Antique Car Club of Sarasota.She resided at the Woods Retirement Community in Camp Hill, Pa., from 1999 until the death of her husband, Robert E. Powell, in 2004. Since that time she has resided at Country Meadows in Mechanicsburg.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Portville United Methodist Church, Vamo United Methodist Church, Hospice of Central Pennsylvania or the charity of your choice.Arrangements by Auer Memorial Home and Cremation Services, Harrisburg, Pa.
