->Smith, Mary NormaMary Norma "Norm" (Bowes) Smith, age 87, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Stratford Police Captain Harold Smith, who predeceased her in death in 2003, entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 22, 2013 in Florida. Known to her family and friends as Norm, she was born in Bridgeport, November 8, 1926 daughter of the late Matthew and Mary (Washburn) Bowes and was a lifelong Stratford resident. Norm was a woman of deep and unwavering faith. Whether making a giant pot of meatballs to feed hungry grandsons or cuddling her great-grandsons, her love for her family was boundless and unconditional. Norm's door was always open and no one left her house hungry. We all knew that she would make our favorite food (whether it was the meatballs that everyone fought over, her famous apple pie, or her amazing chocolate chip cookies) when we came to visit. Norm never forgot a birthday or anniversary, selecting a very personal card for each occasion that was sure to make the recipient feel very special. She never missed a sporting event in which her sons participated and there were many! She would "coach" her favorite baseball teams (quite loudly) from her favorite chair and did not take kindly to dissenting opinions as to who was the best team or player! No one seemed to be luckier at Bingo than Norm, and she took the game very seriously, preparing her space in an orderly and precise manner. Although Norm was small in stature, she had a way of filling the room with love. She enriched our lives and will live always in our hearts and memories. She is survived by her two sons, Harold Jr., and his wife Susan and Daniel and his wife Cynthia; her daughter Nancy; six grandchildren David Jr., Adriane, Amanda, Harold III, Pamela and Matt; three great-grandchildren Landon, Jacob and Eli; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. Friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St, Stratford, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Stratford. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m in the funeral home.
