Mrs. Mary Nell (Whelchel) Johnson, age 94, of Chicopee passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at New Horizon's West Nursing Home following an extended illness. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, at Chicopee Baptist Church with interment to follow in Redwine United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Phil Carpenter and the Rev. Darin Vogt will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the funeral home. Mrs. Johnson was born in Hall County and was a daughter of the late Charles Frances Whelchel and Lou Vena (Young) Whelchel. She was retired from the Chicopee Mill and was a member of the Chicopee Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harlin Johnson; and a son, Rutledge R. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson is survived by her granddaughter, Natalie Lynn Flanders, Oakwood; great-granddaughter, Haiden Isabella Flanders; great-grandson, Zachery Taylor Neptune; niece, Norma Smith, Smyrna; and a host of other family and friends also survive.
