Athens - Mary Nell Bryant Smith, 90, of Athens, died November 28, 2003.A native of Greene County, she was the daughter of the late William Marshal and Nellie McCommons Bryant. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Guy W. Smith.Mrs. Smith received her Home Economics degree from the University of Georgia in 1934 and taught in 3 Georgia counties. She was Tax Receiver for Clarke County from 1946-1948 and was a social worker with the Department of Family and Children's Services from 1952-1975. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Pilot Club, Entre Nous and DAR. She was a longtime member of Athens First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. Her mission in life was to serve others and she undoubtedly touched many lives.Funeral services will be Monday, December 1, 2003 at 11:30 AM from the graveside in Evergreen Memorial Park. Drs. Bill Ross and Jon Appleton will officiate.Survivors include her sister, Sara Bryant Harrison of Thomson; 2 nieces, Edith Harrison Roth of Thomson and Mary Anne Bryant Barton of Covington, LA and 2 nephews, J.E. Harrison, III of Augusta and L. Marshal Bryant of Prescott, AZ.Flowers are optional.
