Obituary of Mary Moore


Service for Mary Ann Sloan Moore, 78, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, with burial in Woodside Cemetery, Clover, S.C., at 4 p.m. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1324 Marion St., Columbia, SC 29201. Mrs. Moore, wife of the late Walter Blair Moore, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006. Born in Simpsonville, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Samuel Raymond Sloan and Nancy Caroline Baldwin Sloan. She was a graduate of Furman University and was a retired public school teacher in York County, S.C. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Mrs. Moore was the former president of Bethel Presbytery, Bible moderator and circle chairman. She was president of the Women of the Church at Clover Presbyterian Church, where she received her life membership. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Sloan Moore Smith, wife of the late Larry LeGrand Smith of Columbia; a brother, Charles Daniel Sloan of Simpsonville, S.C.; two grandchildren, Tillman LeGrand Smith II and Catherine Caroline Smith Kirkland; and a great-granddaughter, Caroline Blair Kirkland. She was predeceased by a brother, Samuel Hardin Sloan.
