MILLS Ms. Mary "Ginger" Mills, age 59, of Yulee, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at her home. Born in Alameda, CA, she was the daughter of the late John and Sara Peeler Ballew. Mrs. Mills had grown up in Memphis, TN where she graduated from High School and continued her education at Nursing College in Memphis, TN, where she graduated with Scholastic honors. During her nursing career, Ginger had worked at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, Cardiac Rehabilitation with Dr. Farid Ullah in Fernandina, and presently with the Southern Heart Group in Jacksonville. Since 1980, she has been a resident of the Fernandina Beach / Yulee area. A longtime active member of Springhill Baptist Church she had a firm faith in God which was displayed by her involvement in church activities and the GRACE Group. Her family, friends and patients will remember her caring spirit, her devotion to each of them and her selfless acts of kindness. She will be missed be all that knew her including her many adopted animals. She leaves behind, her children, Blake Mills, Yulee, FL, Sally Rodeffer (Ryan), Yulee, FL, her companion, Douwe DeBoer, Yulee, FL, and his children, Erika DeBoer, Dallas, TX, Mieke DeBoer, Washington, DC, Gerrit DeBoer, Jacksonville, FL, a sister, Joyce Buchanan (Gary), Orlando, FL, two brothers, John (Jack) Ballew (Marty), Brooks, KY, Bobby Ballew (Marilyn),Cabot, AR, extended family, Harry Mills, Patty and Darrell Benner, Bernice Mills, Cassie McCook, Laurel Benner and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, at Springhill Baptist Church with Reverend Jackie Hayes, officiating. Ginger will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery.
