MARY MCSWAIN HOOPER1910 - 2007Mary McSwain Hooper, 97, of Pensacola, FL.died Sunday, March 18, 2007. A graduate of Appalachian State University, she taught in the Roanoke, VA. School system for twenty years. In recognition of her skill as a first grade reading teacher, she was inducted into the Delta Kappa Gamma International Organization of Women Teachers in 1961. Because of her extensive travels on five continents she developed an interest in history which she combined with her love of family as a genealogist, and imparted these interests to her grandchildren. While serving as Chapter President of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she wrote Our Goodly Heritage, a book on historical lineage as well as other publications. Her proudest achievement was becoming a member of the Order of the Crown of Charlemagne in the United States of America.Her parents, Marcus Lloyd and Minnie McDaniel McSwain of Dallas, N.C., preceded her in death, as well as a brother, Broughton McSwain of Allentown, PA., and sisters, Alta Dixon of Statesville, N.C., Mabel Gribble of Dallas, N.C., and Wilma Ratchford of Gastonia, N.C.Survivors include her beloved husband of 67 years, William O. Hooper, son, Dr. William Richard Hooper (Barbara P.) of Pensacola, granddaughter, Charlotte H. (Scott) Ceier of Lombise, Belgium, grandson William R. Hooper, Jr. of Pensacola and great grandsons, Connor Alexander and Evan Mitchell Ceier of Lombise, Belgium.There will be a private internment at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Thursday, March 22, 2007 followed by a memorial service on Friday, March 23, 2007 at 2PM at Christ Episcopal Church lead by Rev. Harry Hill and Dr. Madison Currin. The family will greet well wishers at a reception following the service in the parish hall.In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan, Fl.17, Chicago, Ill 60601-7633 or any charity of personal choice.
