MARY MARGARET WHITE PORTAGE, IN Mary Margaret White, age 74, a longtime resident of Portage, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. She was born on June 17, 1934 in Gary, Indiana the daughter of Earl and Mary Strain. Mary was a 1952 graduate of Portage High School. She was married to Archie White on August 2, 1985. She worked as the benefits clerk for Midwest Steel retiring after 20 years of devoted service. Mary was an active member of the Portage First Presbyterian Church, attended the Midwest Steel Retirees Club meetings, a member of the Senior Bowling League at Ray's Lanes, and was a regular at Bonner Senior Center. Mary loved collecting angels, cooking, baking, and working in her yard. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Mary is survived by her loving family; son, Dennis W. Meyers of Portage; daughter, Pamela (Charles) McClure of Gary; son Charles R. White of Portage; grandchildren: Belinda Meyers, Diana Meyers, Daniel Meyers, John Meyers, Rebecca Meyers and Dennis Meyers; sister:s Ethel Bottom of Portage, Anita Johnson of the Villages, FL and Reba Ann Peksenak of Delavan, IL; brother, William (Vivian) Strain of Moheda, FL; and other loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Archie White; and her son, Earl R. Meyers. A visitation for Mary White will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2008 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Portage First Presbyterian Church, 6225 Lute Road, Portage with Reverend Tim Reyna, officiating. Burial will be at McCool Cemetery. Memorials in Mary's memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
