MacLEAN, Mary Margaret ("Marg") Peacefully, in hospital, with her family at her side, on 25 July 2007, Ottawa, Ontario. Born 25 February 1916, Winnipeg, Manitoba to Robert J. Davis (Larne, Northern Ireland) and Ethel M. Abernethy (Kingston, Ontario). Marg joins her dear, late husband, Roderick Watson MacLean (1979), and two precious children, Duncan and Katherine (1945). Beloved mother of Brian Roderick of Ottawa (Debbie Gibson) and Margaret Joan (Arnold Dagenais) of Vancouver, and loving Gramma Marg to Duncan and Brilee. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert A. and Elinore Davis, sisters-in-law, Jean and Jessie MacLean and Betty Tilley, brothers-in-law, Bruce MacLean and Reid Tilley, and cousin, Irene Powers. She is survived by brother-in-law, John MacLean (Toronto), sister-in-law Joy MacLean (Calgary), and Clarke and MaryLou Gibson (Wasaga Beach). Marg delighted in her family as mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, step-grandmother, great step-grandmother, aunt and great aunt, and was a wonderful friend to all who knew her. She will be remembered with much love. A member of "the Chestnut Street gang" with Edna Houston and the late Allie Williams, Marg was educated at Kelvin High School in Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba before moving to Ottawa and Queen's University (B.A., 1937). She and her dear friend, Isobel Muir, met at Queen's. At Carleton University Marg was Secretary to the Graduate School. An avid "B" golfer, Marg was a long-time member of the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, a past captain of the women golfers at the Hunt Club, played regularly with the business women and curled when the snow came. She loved bridge and played regularly till just before her death. A love of travel took her from Russia to New Zealand with family visits to Mexico and to cousin, Ibby Bell, in Northern Ireland. She was an active member of Glebe St. James United Church. For years she was a community volunteer. For the last several years Marg was part of the community at The Palisades-Ottawa where she had many long-time and new friends who were wonderful company. The Glebe had been her neighbourhood since coming to Ottawa, even while living in Alta Vista. Thank you all for your friendships. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, Wednesday, 1 August 2007 from 2-4- P.M. and 7-9 P.M. Marg's Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, 2 August 2007 at 1 P.M. Interment at Beechwood Cemetery. Donations can be made in Marg's memory to the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Thanks to the staff at The Palisades-Ottawa, the nursing staff of 8 West at the Ottawa General Hospital and in particular, to Dr. Barnes, Dr. MacKinnon, Hillary Graham and Kelly Ann Baines for their caring support.
