Franklin, N.C. - Mary Louise (Rebello) Smith, 70, beloved wife of Robert L. Smith, of Franklin, N.C. and formerly of Stonington Borough, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at The Westerly Hospital surrounded by her family and friends.Mary Lou was born in Westerly, the daughter of the late Manuel and Elsie Rebello. She graduated from Stonington High School in 1961 and married the love of her life, Robert Smith, on Aug. 25, 1962. She was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom who also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, board games, puzzles, and camping with her friends and family She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Stonington. Mary loved attending and socializing at the Portuguese Holy Ghost Festival. Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, Robert L. Smith Jr. and his wife, Wendy, of Pawcatuck; grandsons, Kyle and Adam Smith; and Christine Pacheco, who was like another daughter to her; as well as several other special nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her daughter, Lisa Marie Smith; her brother, Mario Rebello; and her aunt "Nina" Mary Oliver. She will be missed dearly by many friends and family.Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A funeral liturgy will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Mary's Church, 95 Main St., Stonington. There is no procession from the funeral home to the church.
