Mary-Louise-Ross Williams, born in 1923, spouse of Otto Williams, daughter of Elisha and Mary-Etta-Cannon, mother of Buzz, Fla, Buck, S. C, Rene, Terry and N. C, died on October 7, 2014 at 90 years old.
Mary Louise Ross Williams YORK - Mary Louise Ross Williams, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at White Oak Manor in York, S.C. She was born November 16, 1923, in Marion, N.C., daughter of the late Elisha Joseph and Mary Etta Cannon Ross. She graduated from Marion High School in 1940 and attended Blanton's Business College in Asheville, N.C. Louise moved to Washington, D.C. during World War II, where she began her civil service career working for the Office of Civilian Defense, whose assistant director was Eleanor Roosevelt. In 1947, Louise married William Otto Williams Jr., a Pearl Harbor survivor who was also a North Carolina native. Loving to travel, Louise accompanied her husband to various assignments during his military career as she continued her civil service career. She worked for the French Government and Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., the Naval Supply Department in California, the Department of the Air Force in Alaska and the Social Security Administration in North Carolina. She also worked for the Banks of America in California and Japan. In 1986, Louise retired from civil service with over 33 years of dedicated service to her country. Louise was an active member of the Kings Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in York, S.C. She was a wise and generous woman and was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Otto Williams and two brothers, Ernest Ross and Clarence Ross. Survivors are two sons, Buzz Williams of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. and Buck Williams of York, S.C.; her daughter, Rene Bryson and husband, Terry of Goldsboro, N.C.; two brothers, David Ross and wife, Carolyn of Pinson, Ala. and Paul Ross and wife, Ruth of Candler, N.C.; six granddaughters, Ashley Williams Kovach and husband, Joe of Jacksonville, Fla.; Ticia Daniels and husband, Shawn of Goldsboro, N.C.; Nichole Williams and husband, Dana of Callahan, Fla.; Bonnie Moffitt and husband, Jim of Pikeville, N.C.; Jessie Williams of York, S.C.; and Brooke Mullis and husband, Scotty, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Hannah Vickers of St. Augustine, Fla.; five great-grandsons, Preston Williams of Callahan, Fla.; Dylan Daniels of Goldsboro, N.C. and Trent, Lane and Gavin Mullis of Virginia Beach, Va. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2014, in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home with Pastor Bob White officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service, at the funeral home.
