Obituary of Mary-Lou Carter

Mary Lou Carter, 55, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011 at her home surrounded by family. Mary was born on June 24, 1955 at Salem Memorial Hospital and was a lifetime resident of Penns Grove - Carneys Point in Salem County, NJ. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Baldwin, Maurice Burns, her brother, Jack Baldwin and her sister, Elsie Goetaski. Mary is survived by her husband, Gerald Carter, her children, Gina, Frank, Jennifer and Dylan Carter, her grandsons, Patrick Carter and Noah Carter, her niece, Donna and great niece Brianne Goetaski. She met her husband when she was 18 years old, they married in 1984 and have been together ever since. Mary has been a foster parent and has cared for numerous children along with her husband for over 25 years. She had an incredible love for children and was given an award for Child Advocate of New Jersey. Mary was a teacher for 15 years and a principal for 17 years until last year having to retire due to her health. Having to retire broke her heart, for Mary’s calling in life was the health, happiness and all around well being of the children and all those around her. Never a quitter she longed to do more good in her life to the very end. Mary will be remembered for mentoring children and co-workers alike, helping them to succeed in life. To those who knew her well her life is a legacy, one that will continue through the lives that she has touched, and one that will not be forgotten. Mary will be greatly missed by family, friends and the community she loved. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 PM Thursday and from 10 to 11 AM Friday in the ASHCRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 740 S. Broadway, Pennsville with funeral services at 11 AM Friday. Interment will follow in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ.
