Mary (Lewis) Barnes, age 82, passed away April 18, 2007, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Mo. She was born August 24, 1924, in Canton, Miss., the first child of the late Tommy and Lue Lewis. She graduated from high school in 1943 and was committed to education, always encouraging others to strive for the best. Mary was an excellent dress maker and entrepreneur. She also enjoyed speaking at numerous engagements. On November 22, 1945, Mary married Moses Barnes. From this union one child was born, Timothy Adam Barnes, who preceded her in death. In 1982, Mary and Moses brought their business, Vita-Erb, to Springfield, Mo. The business grew immensely and Mary and Moses had the honor of receiving various awards. Mary is survived by her loving husband, Moses Barnes; two sisters, Alice Harris and Betty Wren; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, in Washington Avenue Baptist Church, 1722 N. National, Springfield, with Pastor Zacqrey Woods officiating. Visitation will be held in Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Wednesday, April 25, from 6 to 8 p.m.
