Mary Leigh Armstrong, 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Shorrock Gardens Care Center in Brick, N.J. A funeral/memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the St. James the Less Episcopal Church in Ashland, Va. Mrs. Armstrong was a homemaker but prior to raising her family she was a biology teacher in Virginia and Hawaii. She was a graduate of Longwood University in Farmville, Va., where she received a B.S. in biology. She was born in Richmond, Va.; grew up in Ashland, Va., and Front Royal, Va., and lived in Paramus, N.J., and Martinsville, N.J. She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Paramus and All Saints Episcopal Church in Millington, N.J., and was a passionate member of the Episcopal Church Women, both nationally and in the Diocese of Newark. Mrs. Armstrong was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert Armstrong, and by her sister, Elizabeth McDaniel. Surviving are her three sons, Stephen Armstrong and his wife, Mazie, of Temple Terrace, Fla.; William Armstrong and his wife, Grayce, of Farmingdale, N.J., and David Armstrong of Pittstown, N.J. She also leaves six adored grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Alexis, Taylor, William and Nancy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to North Porch Women's and Infant Center, Episcopal House, 31 Mulberry St., Newark, N.J. 07102.
