Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Central Baptist Church for Mary L. Smith Jordan of Gainesville. The Rev. Earl Pirkle and the Rev. W.E. Peeples will be officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Jordan passed away Monday, May 17, 2010. She was born in Hall County on Aug. 24, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Martin Vanburen and Louella Wilson Smith. Mrs Jordan was a stay at home mom until the passing of her husband, Willie C. Jordan, in 1961. She then went to work and spent 25 years at Leese-Neville Company. Upon retirement, she traveled extensively, visiting 49 states and spent three weeks touring the Holy Land. She was a member of several Travel Groups. Mary was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church where she was a primary Sunday school teacher and member of W.M.U. She will be remembered as a strong and brave woman and a wonderful mother. She was also preceded in death by her brother, A. James Smith and a sister, Merita Smith Carver. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Marie Jordan of Stone Mountain; daughters And sons-in-law, Dolores Jordan and John C. Crowe Jr. of Dahlonega and Diane Jordan and Robert E. Rugg of Canton; grandchildren, Jason and Suzanne Jarrard of Gainesville, Mary Shileah Jarrard of Duluth, Josh and Kari Rugg and Rebecca and Jay Fryman of Bay area, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews including a special nephew and niece, Daniel and Darlene Carver of Cornelia. Ward's Funeral Home, 758 Main St., Gainesville, is in charge of arrangements.
