FAIR HAVEN - Mary Kathleen (Livingston) Peters, 85, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Heaton Woods in Montpelier. Mrs. Peters was born on Oct. 2, 1929, in Bennington, the daughter of Katherine (Stone) and Hildreth Livingston. Mrs. Peters attended schools in Poultney and Burr and Burton Seminary in Manchester, graduating in 1947. She graduated from Castleton State College in 1949. Her first teaching job was in Jamaica, Vt. After taking some time off to start a family, she went back to teaching at a private nursery school and kindergarten at the Zion Episcopal Church prior to teaching public kindergarten. She did many years of substitute teaching. In 1950 she married Marshall J. Peters from Cambridge, N.Y., in the Zion Episcopal Church in Manchester. They relocated to Fair Haven because of his work in 1967. Mrs. Peters was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Fair Haven where she served as senior warden, on the Vestry and as the organist for many years. Survivors include her children, Doreen Ann (Peters) Cliche of East Montpelier and William James Peters of Castleton; four grandchildren, several stepgrandchildren, and several stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce (Livingston) Dattilio of South Burlington; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband in 1995 and a sister, Sarah (Livingston) Nelson, in 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Fair Haven. Burial will be at a later date in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements are with the Durfee Funeral Home, 119 North Main St., Fair Haven.
