Obituary of Mary-L. Casey


TROY Mary L. Casey of Third St., Troy, died at St. Mary's Hospital Monday morning, November 24, 2003 after a brief illness. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Catherine Whalen Casey. Miss Casey graduated from St. Joseph's Elementary School, Catholic Central High School and Troy Business College, all in Troy. She attended Northwestern University and also attended numerous banking seminars. She worked her whole career in the banking industry beginning at the former Manufacturers National Bank of Troy and retired as vice-president from the Marine Midland Bank. During her career, she was active on many boards and served in many charities. She was honored as the Upstate New York Woman of Achievement and as Troy's Business & Professional Woman of the Year. She was one of the first women to join the former Troy Club. She was a longtime member of the Troy Country Club. Miss Casey is survived by two brothers, John J. Casey and his wife Helen of Scotia and Dr. Thomas V. Casey and his wife Marylin of Brunswick. She was predeceased by her brother, William Casey of Troy. Miss Casey is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ruth Casey of Poestenkill. She was the aunt of Christine Casey Helwig of Poestenkill, John Casey of Schenectady, William Casey of Latham, Timothy Casey of Poestenkill, Dr. Christopher Casey of San Antonio, Texas, Matthew Casey of Chicago, Andrew Casey of Green Oaks, Ill., Stephen Casey of Landsdale, Pa. and Thomas Casey II of Grafton, Mass. The funeral for Miss Casey will be held Saturday morning at 11:30 from the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home, 336 Third St., Troy and at 12:00 from St. Joseph's Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 p.m. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery.
